# DMs from Petto

> Every direct message from Petto says which server it comes from and has three buttons: info, delete and report. A report goes to the Petto team only, never to the server's moderators.

## Overview

Petto sends direct messages for the servers it is in: a welcome, a sanction, the result of a form, a ticket transcript, an appeal answer, a verification step, a level-up and more. So you can always tell who a DM is from and what to do about it, **every DM from Petto** starts with a small grey line and ends with three small buttons.

* **The grey line** says `From <server>`: the server that had Petto send it. It says `From Petto` when no server is behind the message.
* **The three buttons** are **info** (an "i"), **delete** (a bin) and **report** (a warning sign).

Replies to something you typed in your chat with Petto have no line and no buttons.

## The three buttons

| Button | What it does |
| - | - |
| **Info** | Shows facts about the server the message came from (see below), in a private message that only you see |
| **Delete** | Removes that message from your chat |
| **Report** | Opens a form to report the message to the Petto team |

The buttons only work in your own chat with Petto and only on messages that Petto sent. Every answer of the buttons is **private**: only you see it, nothing is written in your chat, and you can close it with Discord's own **Dismiss**.

### What the info button shows

* What is public about the server: its **icon**, **name**, **ID**, when it was **created** and how many **members** it has.
* For a message that comes from Petto itself, one line that says so. For a server Petto has left, its ID and a note that Petto is not in it any more.

It does not say why you got the message and it shows nothing private about the server.

## Reporting a DM

Press **report** and a form opens, called **Report DM to Petto Staff**. It asks for:

1. **A category.** Pick the closest match. There is one for unwanted or abusive DMs, and the same ones as in `/report`: spam, harassment, hate, nsfw, scam, threats, impersonation and other.
2. **Details**, from 20 to 1000 characters, so the team can act on it.
3. **Delete this DM after reporting**, a switch if you want the message removed from your chat.

When it is sent, Petto thanks you in a private message that only you see and tells you the report went to the Petto team. A report has no number you need to keep, and once the team marks it as handled it is closed for good.

> [!WARNING]
>
> **A DM report does not go to the server's moderators.** It goes to the Petto team, the team behind the bot. The moderators of the server the DM came from do not see it. The Petto team cannot act on how a server is run, only on abuse of the bot itself. Do not share passwords or sensitive information in the form.

### Limits

* You can send **3 reports an hour**.
* A message can be reported **once**.

## Which report goes where

| You want to report | Use | Goes to |
| - | - | - |
| A member or a message in a server | [`/report`](https://wiki.petto.sbs/community/reports), `!report send` or the **Report Message** and **Report User** menus | The server's own staff |
| A DM from Petto (a message the bot sent you) | The **report** button under the DM | The Petto team only |

If the problem is a member's behavior in a server, report it to the server's staff. The report button on a DM is for DMs that should not have reached you.
