# Profile history

> Look up the names and nicknames a member has had since Petto first saw them, in Discord or on the website, and delete or stop saving your own.

## Overview

Petto remembers the **names** (display names and usernames) and the **nicknames** of the members it sees, from the moment it sees them: when a member joins and every time they change one. You can look it up in the server with a command, or on the website.

Petto **does not keep avatars**. It used to, with a copy of each picture, but that used too much storage, so the avatar history was removed and only the history of names and nicknames stays.

Saving starts when Petto first sees someone. It cannot know what a person had before, and it only keeps the newest 200 of each kind.

## Commands

* `!names` and `!nicknames` list what is saved (up to 40), newest first, with when each one was seen. Nicknames are the ones of **this server**.
* `!clear names`, `!clear nicknames` or `!clear all` **delete your own** saved history. It is separate from the channel `!clear <number>`, which deletes messages.
* `!profilehistory record false` stops Petto from saving your history and nobody else can see it; what is already saved stays until you `!clear` it; `true` turns it on again. Short names: `!phist`, `!nicks`.

Bots have no history.

## On the website

The **History** page of the [dashboard](https://petto.sbs/dash/history) shows the same, laid out like a profile: your global names and your nicknames, each with its date. Search the history of **anyone by ID**.

Dashboard → History: the global names and the nicknames on the same page, newest first.

At the bottom of your own page you can delete names or nicknames, or everything, and turn the saving off. Only you can delete your history.
