# Auto Thread

> Start a thread under every new message of a channel.

## Overview

Auto Thread opens a thread off every new message posted in a channel you choose. It is good for suggestions, showcases, questions or anywhere each post deserves its own conversation.

It needs **Manage Channels** to configure, and Petto needs **Create Public Threads** in the channel.

## Commands

<CodeGroup>
  ```javascript Syntax theme={null}
  !autothread add <channel> [name] [message] [embed_template] [archive]
  !autothread remove <channel>
  !autothread list
  ```

  ```javascript Example theme={null}
  !autothread add #suggestions "Suggestion by {user_name}" "Discuss this suggestion here!"
  !autothread add #showcase showcase-{user_name} - showcase-welcome 1440
  !autothread list
  ```
</CodeGroup>

| Option | What it does |
| - | - |
| `channel` | A text or announcement channel. |
| `name` | The name of each thread. It supports [variables](/resources/scripting/variables), and defaults to `{user_name}`. |
| `message` | A message Petto sends inside every new thread. It supports variables and `{reactreply:emoji}`. |
| `embed_template` | A [saved embed](/resources/scripting/embeds) to send in the thread instead of the message. |
| `archive` | When the thread archives itself when nobody talks: `60` (1 hour, the default), `1440` (1 day), `4320` (3 days) or `10080` (1 week), in minutes. |

Running `add` again for the same channel changes its settings. `remove` turns it off for that channel and `list` shows every channel with auto-threading on.

<Tip>
  A starter message inside the thread is a good place for rules ("keep it on topic") or a ping to the staff team.
